Really close to my apt, so easy to get to. Pork vermicelli is one of my bf's favorites. The sushi is always excellent. But we really come for the beef pho... Best we've had in town. And an excellent hangover cure!

The Drunken Fish is a corny name for a restaurant, but as I searched for a decent Vietnamese place in the heart of Baton Rouge, I found this place and thought that it would be a neat place to eat. After reading a few reviews on yelp, I was more or less confident in my decision instead of flying blind. I was here on a balmy Thursday early evening, in between a day of sightseeing in Lafayette and hanging around Baton Rouge. A small bowl of Pho would do this time around, as I had ventured onwards eventually later in the evening to Coyote Blues for a burger, fries, and a beer. I was on track to have a bowl of Pho in each of the 50 US states and this one is for Louisiana. With that said, the Drunken Fish is located on Highland Road in Baton Rouge. It is off I-12. The restaurant itself was semi busy when I came in around 5pm and it was pretty good. Nice to kick off the vacation with a bowl of Pho. The Drunken Fish serves up sushi and other Japanese delicacies, as well as Vietnamese foods - including Pho. There is a private parking lot that services The Drunken Fish and accepts major credit cards, so that's always a plus. The service here was so so, but adequate. Just like a lot of Vietnamese places, it's just that way, although Chinese restaurants can cut corners as well. The ambiance was part Vietnamese and part Japanese. The noise level was not too quiet, but it was palatable for the experience. The restaurant itself was clean for the most part and the staff was friendly. The part that I liked was that it was fast from ordering to bringing it out to the table. I had the small meatball & beef brisket Pho, along with summer rolls, to be boxed out if necessary. It's quite a fast paced environment here, with people in and out like you wouldn't believe. But as with life, it's like that. The Pho itself was pretty good and filled up my stomach to the point of satisfaction. I liked the broth, but for me, it felt like it was typical broth, not deep in flavor. Still it was tasty and delicious. Prices here are fair to decent, so it was nice to come here for a short visit. I ended up boxing the summer rolls and had it for breakfast the next morning on the way to Jackson, MS. Those road trips are a killer sometimes, but necessary. The experience here wasn't memorable, yet it wasn't forgettable either. Although it was just for a quick bowl of Pho, it was an adventure for sure. If you are in the neighborhood for Pho and or Japanese cuisine, you can check this place out. While I haven't checked out their sushi, previous reviews have said that they're pretty off the hook. That sounds like something you can dream about and sink your teeth into! Recommended if you are a Pho junkie and want to try something new in the Baton Rouge area. Support local! B

An okay place for sushi. It's right off the LSU campus so it can get packed with college kids. We all really love it. We had a quiet little table over in the corner so we weren't disturbed by the loud college kids. Good service. Okay food.

Nice waitress, but the food was really really really not good. There are plenty of places to eat in Baton Rouge for not only better food in general, but specifically better Vietnamese food. Why did I get an iceberg lettuce "salad" with two cherry tomatoes in the same bowl as my shrimp vermicelli? More importantly, why did my food taste like cardboard and why was my meal over $10 with a water when it looked like 25 cents of food? Like I said, the food was very very very not good. We always make sure to order something recommended and the waitress recommended the Teriyaki chicken... it was literally chicken slathered in soy sauce afterward, not even cooked in it... very bad. I know we won't be going back again.

Stumped across this place while visiting Tiger Stadium. It's a local mom and pop that reaches a certain community niche. Simple basics of sushi and pho caught my attention. The beef pho here is good. Not a great deal of sodium and the broth/soup was rich. The size and quality of the bowl made me wish I had ordered extra noodles to go with all the broth. Had a spicy tuna roll that was pretty generic. Nothing to write home about. Definitely something to try while visiting LSU and Baton Rouge.

The prices are very reasonable for sashimi and sushi. The featured rolls are typical cookie cutter rolls, not memorable at all. However, if the chefs aren't busy, you can request for them to create a few special rolls and they always turn out delicious. The clay pot entrees are flavorful with a lot of spices. The only reason why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 4 is because the service is always extremely unfriendly and slow. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty during each visit, it typically takes at least 15 minutes(usually longer) to flag down the waitress to get your check. Then it takes another 10 minutes for them to take your cc. When I dine here, I come prepared w/ cash and with an extra hour to spare for dinner because of the slow service. I'm all for supporting local businesses and that is why I still patronize the restaurant, but service leaves a lot to be desired.

This place has really good sushi with decent prices! - probably the best prices for good quality sushi in the area. The appetizers are all good too! Good for dining in or take out. I just wish the rest of the menu - the non-sushi options - were more extensive.

This is my second time eating here and I love pho and usually really picky about my pho but Drunken Fish does not disappoint. Both times I ate here I got the beef pho which was very tasty and a decent size portion. We had a sushi roll to start the rock n roll. It was a little big for one bit but great taste and quality. The atmosphere is fun and the service has always been great. I would definitely recommend this place to others and be back soon.

I kinda wish Yelp would allow 1/2 stars, because this place deserves a 4.5 star review. But since I can't I thought I'd be nice and round up. The sushi roll menu was so appetizing that I took a picture of it so I could "scratch" off what I haven't tried. I ordered the Playgirl roll and my hubby Jack ordered the Halloween roll (per my request). We were both blown away! By far the best sushi we've had in Baton Rouge so far. Looking forward to my next visit!

Note: The 4-star rating is for the Vietnamese food, the sushi gets 3-stars. This is not a restaurant you would go to for the atmosphere. It's located in a small strip mall near LSU and is quite bland on the inside. However, the food is good and the prices are even better. I went here with a group of 10 people, so I was able to see and sample a large variety of food choices (the menu is extensive). All of the entrees we tried were great, especially the "House Specialties" served in clay pots (the Spicy Shrimp with Vegetables was wonderful). The sushi was just average. The fish could have been more fresh. However, I should add that I was impressed with the variety and creativity of the sushi menu. But I did find it strange that there were several (by that I mean more than 5) sushi rolls that either included deep-fried ingredients or the entire roll was battered and deep fried. We tried one of the battered and fried rolls, called the "Drunken Fish Roll" it was ok, but rather boring. The "Phoenix Roll" sounded great on the menu, but didn't fulfill my expectations; I thought it would be more spicy based on the menu description. The "Naruto Roll" was great; but it falls a part easily. In conclusion, be sure that you do not go here if you are in a rush. I have a feeling they are understaffed. There were only 2 servers working when I visited and the service and food were slow to arrive.

My friend is going to kill me when he reads this... *hides* 3.5/4 stars. Short and sweet: The inside is nice, and quaint. I like it. Plain and simple. Someone painted on the walls. The menu is great, but I don't know how the Vietnamese food is because I only had sushi. Everything was fresh and good. The philly roll is one of my favorites and hard to mess up, anyway. A lot of the rolls were similar, though. I thought so, anyway. I can never get away from spicy tuna! I like everything I see on a roll BUT the spicy tuna sometimes, but I won't order it just because of that. Depressing. Only complaints: The Miso soup was really good, but lukewarm. There were 2 people waiting on the whole place. They were college kids, a male and female. And they didn't seem to know much about anything on the menu. I heard the girl ask the fry chef what they fry stuff in because a customer asked. No one knew, apparently. She just said, "I think she might be allergic to peanut oil," and instead of getting an answer she said, "I'll just tell her that I don't know." I love sushi and it's hard to disappoint me, actually.

*Takeout review: I can imagine the dine in experience possibly would be better and I'll update my review when I dine in. * The place was okay, I work very close to the location and a friend asked if I wanted something for lunch from the drunken fish and I decided why not give it a shot and try out something, I for a teriyaki steak lunch box that came with some steamed broccoli and white rice. The lunch box was sort of disappointing as the rice was sort of clumpy, generally due to there being too much water to rice ratio, the broccoli ended up being tasteless and the steak was small, and wasn't even cut up into easy to eat slices unlike my friend who ordered the Chicken, my lunch box came out to be roughly 11-12 which did not include a drink. The over all experience was not a good one to start off with being that the lunch box felt more like it should be 5-6 dollars, but I heard "some" of the sushi is decent, but I don't know if I'd want to order to go again.

Great option for Asian cuisine near the LSU area. They just started serving banh mi. Although the sandwich is not authentic and is more fusion, it is really good. The sandwich is served as a combo and comes with a side salad and a cup of miso soup. The dressing on the salad is phenomenal!

I've only been here for the Vietnamese food and its OK, but relatively bland and boring compared to other places. The pho doesn't have a lot of spices that I really enjoy in one of my favorite dishes. The spring rolls are mostly rice noodles with little vegetables and no cilantro and mint to make it pop. The banh mi is OK, but other places do it better. Like I said before, its OK but nothing to say "Wow, that was awesome!"

Omg! Amazing food at a fantastic price! This is the best spot for LSU students. The PHO is out of this world. I will be back for more of the goodness!
I think this place is underrated. It dose not look like tye sushi would be good but it is extremely delicious. I only had the sushi so I cannot comment on the other items. The rolls were super fresh. I am rating the sushi at 4 stars. When I come back I will try other things and post another review.

The sushi is typical mediocre Baton Rouge sushi. The Vietnamese food is DOO DOO. I guess they think it is good enough for Americans. Sad because the owners are ethnically Vietnamese. Kind of like eating boiled crawfish in Oregon.

I'd rather get the Vietnamese food than the sushi here. I think, for what it is, the food is good. It's a good, clean spot to get lunch. And the prices are decent, though not something you want to do every day. As for the food, I'm not a fan of gimmicky rolls but they were good. This is more of a take-out sushi style joint, not some high-end Japanese restaurant. The Vietnamese food I say stick to the rice and vermicelli dishes. If you're a Vietnamese noodle soup ("pho") aficionado, you will be disappointed.

Convenient for its location near campus. Interior is very nice, and the sushi's decent. My main complaint is that the waitstaff doesn't know a goddamn thing about sushi.

If Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese restaurants did the fusion dance this would be the result. The restaurant has taken the best dishes from each region to serve you here in Baton Rouge. While the menu isn't quite as extensive as one would find at a primary restaurant the options are quite tasty. Personally, I came for the pho and I'll be back for more Sunday hangover cure pho. The pho was much better here than I've had in many other places. The servers and chefs were all very welcoming and willing to help you with anything you might need.

Great option for sushi/Vietnamese food if you're in the LSU area. Came here for lunch and the standout dish for me was the baked salmon appetizer, it was VERY good! I recommend anyone try this dish when coming here. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. The food didn't take long to come, even though the place was getting a pretty good lunch crowd. I also tried the Boston roll and it was very good, the tuna tasted fresh. I definitely plan on coming back here and trying a few of the Vietnamese dishes as well!

Walked in, nice, relaxing atmosphere. Pho was good and hearty. Sushi roll was good but extra small ( fruit roll up size) for the large price probably would not order sushi from there again. Fit stars due to the small Sushi roll

Went in to try the Pho because it was closer to my house then other locations that serve Vietnamese cuisine. The pho was bland to me. The broth tasted salty and lacking that beef bone flavor that most Pho has. The lackluster service was also a downfall.

The absolute BEST vegetarian PHO I've ever had, ever. I wish I had the recipe! I would eat this every day if I could.

This place is ok. It's a weird mix of LSU appreciation and Japanese culture. I ordered the avocado roll which was pretty good and some pho. It seemed more salty than I'm used to. Don't get me wrong though I liked it enough to finish it. It was strangely muggy in the restaurant so by the end of the meal I was sweating pretty hard. I'd come back to give the other dishes a shot for sure. Service was pretty good but we were some of the only people in there.

Overall, I feel like I need to go again before I can have a legitimate opinion of the restaurant, though I did enjoy myself while I was there. When I return, I will have to try the pho. I had eaten a late lunch before I went with one of my friends, so I told the waitress that I wanted something light. She suggested that I have the Com Dia, which was essentially a grilled chicken breast with some rice a sort-of salad and some steamed broccoli. There wasn't really anything worth noting on the sides, but I did enjoy the chicken breast, it was well seasoned and juicy. My friend had the pho, which was very delightful. I am not sure what meats he had in it, though I have to say that the broth was my favorite part, with the cilantro and other seasonings. The reason I feel I need to go back again before being able to fully formulate my opinion is that I didn't get the sort of thing I would normally get, though what I had was satisfying. Oh yeah, they have these wonderful little Japanese sodas called Ramune. I had the melon one, and it was very nice.

My wife and I were driving down Highland near Lee towards our normal sushi place when I suggested that maybe we try another, I broke out Yelp and found this place. We walked in about 5pm and there was only one other group in the whole place. It was a Monday night after all. We asked for a quiet table in the back which we got. The wait staff was very nice and attentive, the sushi chef's busy at their posts and the decor was very nice and fitting. My wife ordered the edamame and iced green tea for the two of us. We ordered the LSU Roll and the Tokyo Roll. Total bill was $30. The Edamame was steaming hot and fresh, a bit too salty for our tastes, I guess just ask when you order to hold back on the salt a bit. Otherwise these were very good and just enough to satiate us before our order came. Sushi was fresh. Tokyo Roll was $6.50 and the LSU roll was $10 or $12. We normally go all out but tonight it was low key. We were content with what we got, split it 50/50 between us and we were done. I think we'll go back and try some other things. I liked that they had Pho in the menu as well. I'm glad to know it's there.
What a great restaurant and experience. The sushi was great and a fantastic atmosphere with great service. Look forward to going back and am seriously considering trying the pho king challenge next time!

Beef pho-my husband had this and said it was good but I didn't get a taste so... Hu tieu shrimp-I will go back for this probably once a week. I loved it. The shrimp were huge and very fresh. It also had a ton of noodles (the clear ones-I think they are called cellophane noodles) YUM! I like to add a little sriracha and hoison sauce to my broth to spice it up. They bring the sauces out on a dish as well as all the fixins you might want to add to your soup like mint, lime, cilantro etc. spicy tuna roll- Very fresh, a smaller roll but it was only $6 so I didn't expect it to be huge. Service was friendly and fast!

First time I came, food was very average and service was non-existent. Decided to give it another try and got the EXACT same experience. Brought up several things to my waitress and management, and they did not care at all. No sorrys, no remorse, pretty much just pay and leave. DO NOT GO HERE!!

The sushi itself is not made well and quite over priced but I must recommend the sauteed edamame! it is very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! Honestly, it is the only reason I return, because I can't find another place that offers this. I was surprised to see that no one else had mentioned it.

The service was a little boring. The Soft Shell crab roll was "padded" with immitation crab meat. That's a kinda lazy way to make that roll and definitely intended to be enjoyed by someone who doesn't know better.

Just off the LSE campus,"Had dinner here, cuke salad (had smelt eggs in it), viet spring shrimp roll, and blues roll. Blues roll is a California roll with snow crab, julienne cuke wrapped in seaweed, rolled in rice and topped with salmon, tempura crumbs and siratcha. All excellent."

I went to this place because I was in a time crunch and had been a little intrigued by their funny name. I was pretty disappointed. Nothing was bad per se, but it certainly was not anything special. The reason I give 2 stars is because of the prices. I realize sushi will always be more expensive than most food but I have gotten much better sushi for less. Even their basic cheap rolls were overpriced. I've never seen a spicy tuna roll for more than $5.00. Theirs is $6.50 AND it was only so-so. Yes, this is only a small difference but it adds up in groups and, even more notably, when you can get better quality for less. Service was nice though; young college girls who were attentive and sweet. My friend got the pork vermicelli or something like that- it was good. Not my style because it was kind of on the sweet side (Thai-style almost) but it was fine and she liked it a lot. This place wasn't awful but I won't be back.

Not bad restaraunt as I am Asian. I recommend here for u cuz food is not bad, but not the best as well.

Omg! Amazing food at a fantastic price! This is the best spot for LSU students. The PHO is out of this world. I will be back for more of the goodness!

Decent Vietnamese food and sushi near the south gate of the LSU campus. There are better and more authentic Vietnamese restaurants out on Florida Boulevard, but this one is handy, and good enough for folks around campus. The menu is pretty extensive and will offer something for differing palates and there are plenty of vegetarian dishes -- so it is a great place to take a group of friends because they will most likely all find something they like. Some of the Bun dishes I've ordered have been a bit on the greasy side and rest heavy in your stomach after lunch and sometimes the Pho has been on the salty side. Overall, the times I've visited have been good experiences and attentive service. The décor is little strange for a Vietnamese restaurant, although fitting for an LSU crowd. You can visit and see for yourself.

I think this place is underrated. It dose not look like tye sushi would be good but it is extremely delicious. I only had the sushi so I cannot comment on the other items. The rolls were super fresh. I am rating the sushi at 4 stars. When I come back I will try other things and post another review.

Great budget sushi. Convenient to campus, which meant I got lunch to-go there a lot at one point. I hear great things about sitting at the sushi bar, but maybe you have to know somebody.

The food was great, but my waiter was trying to hit on my friend , I'm not putting out names but watch out for the waiter in the ponytail.

The Drunken Fish, where to start! The location is stellar, right outside of the LSU gates on Highland. I've been here on several occasions both for lunch and dinner and have always enjoyed it. The service is always great, and although it's cozy, it's clean and welcoming. I do have to give a disclaimer: If you are a Vietnamese and Sushi purist, this won't be the place for you. However, that is not to say that the food isn't good or that you'll be disappointed. I would describe the food as having an Asian fusion flare that captures the Asian flavors but not in the most traditional ways. So, what would I recommend??? My personal favorites are the clay hot pot dishes. The basil shrimp and mushrooms is a must. The shrimps and mushrooms are sautéed in a spicy and flavorful brown sauce. Hints of sriracha, basil, garlic, and lime are evident. The shrimps and mushrooms are served in a pot on a layer of brown rice with snow peas. For something different, you should try the half-moon cakes - crepes stuffed with bean sprouts, onions, and shrimp. They're reminiscent of an omelet at first glance, but packed with a punch. The half-moon cakes are served with rice, vegetables, and a side lettuce and cucumber salad. The Pho is pretty good, but not the best. I'm a Pho snob and tend to grade a tad harsher, but I won't hold it against the restaurant considering they have other and better dishes.

(2)Patrick D.
Had the Eel and Crunchy Shrimp roll... It was amazing. The wait service was outstanding.
(5)Chris S.
It's a nice little place. I had a couple rolls of sushi, which was pretty good for its price. I walked by the kitchen and it was a bit smoky to be honest. Everybody was all right with their food. The service was nice. Our waitress was very polite.
